I was sitting by a too-quiet crib when it started to make sense.
After everything we had just witnessed, I couldn’t shake the frustration—because I know it doesn’t have to end this way. I’ve seen moms and babies saved before.
There was a level of preparation that simply hadn’t been there before.

In the clinic with Rebecca, the room felt different before anything even happened.
Someone had been trained to recognize danger earlier. There were basic tools within reach. There was a level of preparation that simply hadn’t been there before.
And because of that, when the moment came, clinic workers had what they needed to respond.
Not with advanced technology. But with the right knowledge at the right time.
Enough to change the outcome.
As I was standing there, it became clear to me—this isn’t about doing something extraordinary.
It’s about making sure the basics are there when they’re needed most.
Because what we saw proved something we can’t ignore:
The difference between life and
loss is often not complicated.
It’s whether help is already there.
As we celebrate National Baby Day this month, these babies are on our mind, and we hope their stories inspire you as well, because every baby deserves a first breath.
Every mother deserves a fighting chance.
And you can help make that possible.
