Helping babies in the Democratic Republic of the Congo

In the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Saving Moses supports malnutrition care and BirthAid. Field reports from Nyankunde show why nutrition, skilled care, and support for families belong together.

Nutrition and continuity of care

Our Malnutrition program helps provide therapeutic milk and nutritional resources for babies and toddlers. Clinical teams determine the care each child needs.

A January 2025 report from Nyankunde describes another part of that support: Saving Moses works with a local caregiver known as Mama Sunday to help families caring for babies after a mother’s death or other feeding difficulties. The report describes milk support, transportation, family coordination, and follow-up with a doctor. Read Mama Sunday’s story for the details of this work.

BirthAid in eastern Congo

In February 2025, the Saving Moses team reported on BirthAid in eastern Congo. The account describes trained birth attendants, prenatal care, pediatric check-ups, community education, and support for maternal nutrition.

An earlier field journal from Nyankunde Hospital shares the team’s experience with the maternity staff and families. These firsthand reports show the people and practical care behind the BirthAid program.

Reported activity in FY2025

For June 2024 through May 2025, the annual report’s DRC malnutrition-clinic table records 2,625 babies served and 242 inpatient babies cured, using the report’s category labels.

For the same period, the DRC BirthAid table reports 74 babies born and 75 women served. These are separate program activity categories and should not be added together as a unique-person total.

See the FY2025 annual report (PDF) for the full tables, or read our annual impact summary.

Support that reaches beyond one moment

Families’ needs do not end after an appointment or a delivery. The accounts from Nyankunde describe follow-up, transportation, nutrition, and the work of local clinical teams and caregivers.
